ESL Prepositions Game: Interactive Prepositions of Place Activity

Master the language of space and location with our Prepositions game. This interactive ESL activity is designed for students to practice prepositions of place in a clear, visual context. How to Play: Arrange the Scene

Our online prepositions activity provides immediate feedback as you interact with 9 different real-life environments:

  • Step 1: Read the Instruction – A sentence will appear at the top of the screen describing where an object belongs (e.g., "The cat is under the table").
  • Step 2: Move the Object – Click and drag the matching item to the correct position in the scene.
  • Step 3: Complete the Scene – There are 12 objects to place in each level. Once all items are correctly positioned, you move to the next, more challenging environment.
  • Step 4: Choose Your Pace – If the timer is too fast, you can select 'Slow' mode from the title screen to practice at your own speed.

Why Teachers Choose This Prepositions Resource

Teachers recommend this ESL prepositions activity because it moves beyond abstract definitions and provides a functional, realistic context. Students aren't just memorizing words; they are performing actions that reinforce the meaning of the language. It is an ideal tool for Cambridge A1 Starters and A2 Key (KET) preparation, where describing the location of objects is a fundamental skill.

Classroom Tips

After playing the game, have students play "Hide and Seek" with classroom objects, giving instructions to their partners using the prepositions from the game. For more practice with household items, try our Vocab Game, or pair this with the Daily Routines game to describe where activities happen.
