How to Play: Drag, Match, and Learn

Our online vocabulary game is divided into two distinct phases to maximize repetition and engagement:

  • Phase 1: Drag and Drop – You will see sets of 3 or 4 images. Drag each image to its matching word. When you find the correct match, the image locks into place and the audio plays, reinforcing the pronunciation.
  • Phase 2: Rapid Matching – Once you've matched 10 items, the game switches gears. You are shown a large central image and must quickly click the corresponding word from three options below.
  • Goal: Mastery through Repetition – The game cycles through these phases, ensuring you encounter each word multiple times until you can recognize them instantly.

Why Teachers Choose Fast Vocab

Teachers recommend this drag-and-drop ESL activity because it appeals to different learning styles—kinesthetic, visual, and auditory. The rapid transition between dragging images and selecting text keeps students focused and prevents "boredom plateaus." It is an ideal resource for Pre-A1 Starters and A1 Movers students who need to build a high-frequency lexicon before moving on to complex sentence structures.

Classroom Tips

This game works perfectly as a 5-minute "bell ringer" to review the previous day's vocabulary. If your students have mastered these individual words, challenge them to use the words in full sentences with our Monster Phrases Game or test their speed in the Fast English Game.
