How to Play: Race Against the Clouds
Our online sentence building game challenges both your grammar knowledge and your reflexes:
- Step 1: Observe the Image – A picture will appear representing a specific action or situation. Analyze the subject, verb, and object.
- Step 2: Order the Clouds – Click and drag the floating word clouds to put the sentence in the correct order. When the order is right, the clouds disappear.
- Step 3: Beat the Timer – As you progress, the clouds begin to fall faster. If three clouds hit the bottom of the screen before you finish the sentence, the game is over!
Why Teachers Choose Falling English
Teachers recommend this ESL grammar game because it provides immediate feedback on syntax errors. Unlike a static worksheet, the "falling" mechanic creates a sense of urgency that discourages over-analyzing and encourages language fluency. It is a perfect supplement for students preparing for Cambridge A2 Key (KET) or B1 Preliminary (PET), where correct word order is critical for the writing and speaking components.
Classroom Tips
For a fun classroom competition, project the game on a whiteboard and have students come up in teams to solve the sentences. To build more foundational vocabulary before playing, try our Monster Vocab game, or for more advanced sentence practice, move on to our Conditional Sentences page.
